Distributed Storage

Networking

Diamanti CNI leverages SR-IOV PCIe standard for Layer 2 networking to provide VNICs (VFs) to a pod, hiding the complexity of VF management from the user and making the pod a first-class citizen of the corporate network. The card completely offloads many networking functionalities such as:

Performance

The card offloads Ultima data plane services to eliminate CPU overhead and utilizes full host resources for higher application performance, bringing cloud hyperscale and economics to the data center. The Ultima offload offers screamingly-fast NVMe performance with 1M+ IOPS and uniform latency of around 100µs. This is achieved, in part, by leveraging SSD’s inherent performance advantage with sequential write, controlled IO queues to the drive (WRR) and memory mapped I/O. Additionally the card also guarentees configurable networking throughput at consistent low latency independent of volume size.


QoS & Isolation

Diamanti Ultima offload provides container granular quality of service (QoS) policies with dedicated Tx/Rx queues to deliver guaranteed SLAs for I/O intensive applications. This also helps to avoid “noisy neighbor” issues and denial of service attacks. The card utlizes dynamic SR-IOV NVMe controller for each volume and networking endpoint to provide complete storage and networking isolation at PCI level.


Security

The Diamanti Ultima Offload delivers an additional layer of security by isolating traffic at both a hardware and software levels, seperating network traffic between data, storage, control and tenant. The card offloads security functions such as:

secure boot paired with host technologies (UEFI, TPM) IPSec/SSL IPTable stateful L4 Firewall volume encryption self encrypting drives (SED).
